Chat-First Integration: Slack and Teams

All six major vendors have generally available Slack and Microsoft Teams connectors as table stakes in 2026. The distinction is not whether they integrate but how deep the integration goes. A surface-level integration surfaces a chatbot in Slack. A deep integration uses Slack as a primary action channel: the AI receives requests, executes across integrated systems, and posts confirmations, all without leaving the channel.

Moveworks and Aisera are typically rated highest for depth of Slack and Teams integration. ServiceNow's Now Assist integrates via Virtual Agent connectors that surface the conversational AI in Teams and Slack. Freshservice, Atlassian, and Zendesk all ship functional connectors that cover conversational self-service but with less action-framework depth.

Chat-first deployment strategy: enable AI in Slack or Teams before enabling on the IT portal. End-user adoption is consistently higher when the AI is in the channel employees already use, not in a separate portal they have to remember to visit. This is a change management finding, not a technology finding.

Identity Provider Integration: What the AI Actually Does With Your IdP

Identity provider integration is where AI service desk moves from answering to doing. Okta and Entra ID are the most commonly integrated IdPs. The AI authenticates the requesting user (via a secondary verification step), verifies the request is policy-compliant, and executes the action in the IdP: password reset, group membership change, app provisioning, or access removal.

SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) provisioning and JIT (just-in-time) provisioning are the key protocols. All major vendors integrate with SCIM. On-premises Active Directory without a cloud bridge is supported by ServiceNow (native), Moveworks, and Aisera; Freshservice, Atlassian, and Zendesk have more limited on-prem AD support.

Audit logging is non-negotiable: every IdP action executed by the AI must be logged with the requesting user, the action taken, the AI confidence score, and the approving policy. This is a compliance requirement in regulated industries (SOC 2, HIPAA, FedRAMP).

Knowledge Base Connectors: The RAG Source Layer

The knowledge base connector layer determines what the AI can answer from. All major vendors support Confluence, SharePoint, Google Drive, and custom web crawl. Atlassian has native Confluence integration (unsurprisingly). Moveworks and Aisera support the widest range of source connectors including Notion, Guru, and internal wiki tools.

KB hygiene is the most underdiscussed precondition for RAG accuracy. Stale, contradictory, or incomplete articles produce confident wrong answers. Vendors with KB governance tooling (Aisera surfaces stale articles; Moveworks identifies KB gaps from unresolved ticket patterns) help surface hygiene problems, but fixing them requires internal editorial effort that no vendor provides.
